Karl NyhlinKarl Nyhlin, born in Umeå in northern Sweden in 1974, studied lute and continuo playing in Stockholm and Malmö. Awarded with several large scholarships, including a Fulbright, he continued his studies with Nigel North at IU Bloomington, Indiana, where he finished in 2002.

Today, Karl Nyhlin is regarded as one of the leading lute players of his generation. Based in Stockholm, he is in great demand across Europe, as both a soloist and continuo player on various lutes, theorbos and early guitars. He has performed in over 30 countries, and has given masterclasses at conservatories throughout Europe, the Americas, Asia and Australia. Karl works regularly at opera houses, such as those in Stockholm (Drottningholm and the Royal Opera), Oslo, Amsterdam and Vienna, as well as with numerous leading European ensembles and orchestras.

Karl is represented on numerous recordings as an orchestral and chamber musician. His critically acclaimed debut solo CD of works by baroque lute composers Weiss and Kellner was released in 2010, and the 2012 follow-up, ”The Jacobean Lutenists”, has been praised to the skies by the press, with words such as ”technique, feeling and insight come together”, ”perfection”, and ”album of the year in its genre”.
