Kasper de Roo is an internationally renowned interpreter of the music of the 20th and 21st century. Following his studies of bassoon and conducting at the Royal Conservatory in his hometown The Hague and at the Sweelinck Conservatory Amsterdam, he initially worked as a bassoonist with the Rotterdam Philharmonic Orchestra before making his debut as a conductor at the 1979 Cabrillo Music Festival, at the invitation of Dennis Russell Davies. The following year he was a prize winner at the International Competition for Conductors in Besançon.

In 1984 he was appointed Kapellmeister at the Stuttgart State Opera and in 1992 Music Director of the City of Innsbruck Symphony Orchestra and the Tyrolean State Theater. From 1988 Kasper de Roo was regularly invited by the National Symphony Orchestra of Ireland (NSO) as guest conductor and in 1994 appointed as NSO Principal Conductor. With the NSO Kasper de Roo enjoyed very successful concert tours through Ireland, Great Britain, Germany, Austria, and numerous recordings.

Together with the Klangspuren Festival Schwaz, Kasper de Roo founded Windkraft-Kapelle für Neue Musik in 1999. Concerts with Windkraft were given at the Klangspuren Festival Schwaz, Transart Festival Bolzano, Gaida Festival Vilnius, Arena Festival Riga and in Amsterdam, Cologne and Basel, among others. As a conductor of contemporary music he appears regularly with Ensemble Modern, Ensemble Die Reihe Vienna, MusikFabrik Köln, Oslo Sinfonietta, Ergon Ensemble Athens, Con Tempo Ensemble Beijing and Windkraft-Kapelle für Neue Musik at Europe’s most important festivals such as Festival Modern Wien, Edinburgh Festival, Festival d’ Automne Paris, Ultima Festival Oslo, Holland Festival, Schleswig-Holstein Festival, Klangspuren Festival, Biennale Venice and at the New Vision Arts Festival in Hong Kong. With the Ensemble Modern Kasper de Roo has shared a long alliance since 1987, with years of regular succesful collaborations. Their recording of Elliot Sharp’s Tessalation Row was nominated for the German Record Award in 2004.

Kasper de Roo has conducted numerous renowned orchestras, including the Rotterdam Philharmonic Orchestra, Royal Philharmonic Orchestra Antwerp, Dresdner Philharmonie, Basel Sinfonietta, Noord Nederlands Orkest Groningen, Residentie Orkest The Hague,  SWR Symphonieorchester Stuttgart, Staatsorchester Stuttgart, Symphony Orchestra of the Beethovenhalle Bonn, Stuttgart Chamber Orchestra, Orquesta Philhamonica Nacional Buenos Aires, Brucknerorchester Linz and National Philharmonic Warsaw.
